Behind The Scenes

When I first started helping my aunt in her business I helped with product and website design.  I became more invested in the company and started doing much more on the design side and posting on the website. I had to learn much more about how to make our products look good by using Canva. I had to have over one hundred files to have ever category of items and designs we had in order. I also had to learn more about the backend of the website.

I had to set aside time to practice putting the designs together on mock-up pages that would be used on the website. I had to import images from files we created or purchased. Since I had another job I had to find time around it and on weekends to do what I had to for the website. I would place them on the mock-ups for tumblers and t-shirts for display on the website. This sounds easier than it is.  It can be very time-consuming to get the images to look right. I want them to be attractive to our customers. I would have to pick the proper background to set off the image in a good way.  I did not realize how difficult it is to come up with a proper name for the product to display on the website.  I wanted to be more creative than “flower tumbler.”

I have been helping for about a year and I feel I have improved my techniques on the digital designs.  I have also helped with creating the physical products such as the t-shirts.  You would think using a heat press would be easy but it requires a specific technique to do the shirts quickly and in a strategically placed position on the shirt. After helping with 140 shirts for one order I had my technique down. 

Cutting the images and placing the images on the tumblers also requires technique. Many little things can go wrong if just one thing is out of place. My learning on the physical and digital side of the business can only improve our web presence going forward. I will be more productive because I have learned my own shortcuts and techniques for each of the items we provide. This is a fun job and I want the customers to see we care about the design and the products they receive.
